The A6 Dungiven and Drumahoe scheme officially opened to traffic on Friday, 7 April, with cars, lorries and buses taking to the 25.5km stretch of road shortly after 9:00am local time.
Roughan & O’Donovan (ROD) acted as designer for Sacyr, Wills Bros and Somague (SWS JV), who worked together in a joint venture to deliver this £220 million upgrade of the A6 on behalf of the Department for Infrastructure.
The scheme comprises 25.5km of high standard dual carriageway between Drumahoe and Dungiven, and includes a bypass of Dungiven, with new roundabouts connecting the scheme to the existing road network at either end.
In addition to delivering the detailed design for the project, ROD provided a full-time designers site team, who worked closely with the design offices and the construction team monitoring construction of the works.
This follows our previous success working in DJV with Arup to deliver the detailed design for the 15km dual carriageway scheme between Randalstown and Castledawson on the A6 for Graham Farrans Joint Venture.
Special mention to our dedicated team who have worked hard to deliver the scheme over the last few years, including our principal sub-consultant Prointec, Buro Happold who completed Cat 3 checking on several structures, and our other supply chain partners.
