Kildare County Council has appointed Roughan & O'Donovan as consultant engineer for the Maynooth Eastern Ring Road (MERR) scheme.
The scheme will link the Dublin Road to the Celbridge Road in Maynooth and provide a new bridge crossing of the Dublin-Sligo railway line and the Royal-Canal. It will include new footpaths, cycle tracks and several new and upgraded junctions along the route.
The scheme will also facilitate the development of 800 new housing units for the town's growing population.
It is hoped the investment will significantly improve the quality of life for people living in and visiting Maynooth, as the current transport and traffic management arrangements in the town are resulting in significant delays and congestion.
Roughan & O'Donovan's commission includes the full scope of services from feasibility assessment through to tender award for the main works contract.
Funding of €14.5 million has been made available for the project from the Local Infrastructure Housing Activation Fund (LIHAF).
