College Green Dame Street Public Realm Project

The College Green and Dame Street Public Realm project represents a significant investment in Dublin’s urban future. It aims to create a safe, inclusive, accessible, public space in the heart of Dublin city for people of all ages to meet, relax and enjoy cultural and recreational events, celebrations and social activities. The project area extends from South Great George’s Street to Trinity College Dublin.

ROD is part of a multidisciplinary team appointed by Dublin City Council to design and deliver the project. Led by Scott Tallon Walker Architects in conjunction with OKRA Landscape Architecture, the team includes urban planners, civil engineers, landscape architects and community engagement specialists amongst others.

The project is being co-funded by the National Transport Authority.

• Provide a world-class, multifunctional public space, which complements the adjacent historical buildings, most notably Trinity College Dublin and Grattan’s Parliament
• Remove vehicular traffic in an east west direction while facilitating deliveries and limited local access
• Create a high-quality, pedestrian-priority space
• Support the City’s Climate Action Plan by prioritising sustainability and greening in the development of the design
• Provide a safe cycle route
• Support the local economy by enhancing footfall
• Use principles of universal design to provide an accessible space for all to enjoy

• Significant improvements to the pedestrian environment
• Landscaping for improved air quality
• Introduction of public amenities, such as seating areas and art installations 
• A complementary traffic management strategy will smoothen the flow of traffic for cyclists and public transport users, reducing congestion

• Project management, including project coordination, schedule management, risk management and stakeholder engagement 
• Civil engineering design services in joint venture with Civic Engineers
• Ecology
• Contract administration 
• Supervision of works
