Summary
Roughan & O’Donovan-AECOM provided full engineering design services, from scoping, feasibility, environmental consultancy through to planning (including the preparation of draft Railway Order documents) for this rail project involving a 34km twin-track extension from Dunboyne towards Navan.
The project was not submitted at An Board Pleanála.
Solution
The scheme consisted of the reopening of approx. 35km of rail line from Pace to Windtown and involved five railway stations, 50+ bridges, park and ride facilities and several level crossings.
Our scoping study examined the feasibility of reopening the rail line, and our subsequent feasibility study examined the 2 preferred routes arising out of the scoping study.
We also provided environmental and engineering consultancy services to bring the project forward, including preparing draft Railway Order documents.
Challenge
Reducing impacts on land holdings, protected sites and properties developed in the 40 years that followed the closure of the line represented a challenge.
