Summary
Roughan & O’Donovan provided civil engineering design and construction management services to Dun Laoghaire Rathdown County Council for the development of a 2km quality bus corridor along the Rock Road in South Dublin.
The scheme succeeded in reducing traffic congestion on the Rock Road in Blackrock, Dublin.
Solution
Our design solution involved:
- Road strengthening and minor road widening
- Significant utility infrastructure for ESB and water
- Reconfiguration of the traffic lanes and signalised junctions to provide a continuous bus lane in both directions
- Road pavement, road markings and traffic sign design
We prepared both the tender documentation and the tender assessment report and acted as the engineer during construction.
Challenge
The design required significant liaison with Dun Laoghaire Rathdown County Council, the Quality Bus Network Project Office, Dublin Transportation Office and the Electricity Supply Board (ESB), who undertook the scheme as a joint venture.
Services provided:
- Civil engineering design
- Contract management
